About Hans
Take a moment to read between the years, and you will meet a calm, soft-spoken and understated leader who has dedicated his life to serving others. Hans Liljeberg.
Hans’ story began in 1968 in the heart of a sparsely populated Jefferson Parish. He and his four siblings were taught that hard work pays dividends and education paves the road to success. Hans dedicated himself to learning at Catholic schools before earning a business degree from Tulane and graduating from Tulane Law. While in law school, he studied abroad and trained under U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. His rise in law was nothing short of astonishing.
At 25 years old, Hans held General Motors accountable in a nationwide, class action safety recall. At 34, he was elected the youngest member of the 24th Judicial District Court finishing with the least number of cases to be heard. At 44, he became the youngest judge on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeal. Along the way he became one of Jefferson’s most trusted jurists.
Hans is a former prosecutor who ripped drugs from their roots. As a judge, he rendered swift, stern decisions and protected us from career criminals through his tough sentencing. As a teacher at Tulane, he prepares a generation of scholars on the merits of business law. He is an exemplar of faith and family who, with his wife Stacey, raised seven daughters to become business, medical and legal professionals.
Still, Judge Liljeberg has much more to offer. Relying heavily on his strength of conviction and the clarity with which he delivers an argument, Hans will be an effective voice for the people of District 5. He will promote stronger flood control, smarter traffic management, improved street lighting, upgraded parks and playgrounds, and the views and opinions of the people he serves. We have experienced Hans’ abilities manifested in courtrooms, boardrooms, and classrooms. With that as a benchmark, there’s every reason we can expect him to be just as dynamic and influential on the council.
